“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness”

“Anger has always been your greatest sin.” -Creon to Oedipus in Oedipus at Colonus in The Oedipus Cycle

Anger is a dangerous thing that everyone feels once in a while. It can tear people apart and it is a destructive emotion to feel.  People say and do things that they normally wouldn’t do because they are angry. Creon tells Oedipus that anger has always been his greatest sin when it it the opposite. In Sophocles’ Oedipus at Colonus book Creon is angry at Oedipus and takes his daughters away from him, something that wouldn’t normally happen if he wasn’t angry. When we are angry we just say whatever we are thinking without thinking of the consequences. When I got angry I used to stomp around and make a lot of noise and yell but after I was done I would see how destructive I was being. While sometimes ager gives you a rushinng feeling, the negative effects outweigh the positive. Now when I am angry i stop myself, count to 10 and keep counting until I am no longer angry. This method really works for me. I think about how if I let myself get to angry then i could potentially hurt someone who means a lot to me. If you are angry, then you just have less time to be happy. You will have less time to appreciate the life that you have and the people that you know and love. Try to distance yourself from people who are angry as well because your feelings could be hurt or you could become angry at them for being angry. After all, when you fight fire with fire, you can’t put out the fire. All you get is a bigger fire.

Note: I’m trying to figure out a definite schedule to post what i need to post. I will most likely post twice a week i just have to find days that I have enough time to post because my schedule is pretty busy. I meant to post this on Wednesday or Thursday but I got a headache due to a concussion that i got last Sunday. I will post a blogging schedule or add it to my about me page when I figure it out.

Don’t forget to smile everyday because you are lovely!! (:

  1. Hi Mikaila! I love your blog already because it spreads so much positivity and puts smiles on people’s faces. “For every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness” is one of my favorite quotes in that “why be angry when you can be happy?” I can definitely relate when I do not think before I act. Anger usually causes more trouble, but being happy all the time is definitely not easy! Thank you for the methods on how to calm down when one is angry!
